Sugar cravings, energy levels and belly fat

Yesterday I sort of slipped in a comment about wanting to lose weight. It is not necessarily so that I find myself a fatso and it is not just about losing weight, it is just as much (if not more) anout feeling healthy and energetic. Feeling tired all the time is just ‘so last season’! With summer slowly approaching I want to at least feel bouncy enough to do stuff.

The thing with me feeling tired is that I go for the quick fix of eating humongous amounts of sugary foods (cookies, cake, ice cream with cookies and cake flavour, chocolate and basically anything else as long as it contains sugar). Of course I always end up feeling more tired and thus eating more sugar, etc. Also, once I started to indulge, I almost always tell myself that it doesn’t matter anymore, I already broke my healthy habits so there’s no point in trying to fix things for today, I’ll work out and eat healthy tomorrow. Same thing every day.

If I want to stop eating sugar, I have to go cold turkey and push myself through that first week of feeling extra tired and extra annoyed. Until I get used to my new habits.

So yeah, I’m cutting of my sugar supply. Since sugar is my only real problem food I will not take anything else away from my diet right now. I’ve done this before and I really felt and looked better. Of course there’s always that moment when I think I can has cake…

In order to lose weight a little faster, I decided to force myself to work out every weekday for at least 30 minutes. Nothing hyper intense, just some roller blading, workout videos or a nice long bicycle ride.

Now the figures, I dread sharing them but you would probably want me to, so here it goes:

And this is what I’m going for:

Of course I’ll keep you updated. And I will show some before and after pictures, once I have an ‘after’. This is only day two and although I’m quite motivated, I still have to gather some more discipline. So yeah, more on this next week!

OOTD – Nonchalance

I just started my day with oatmeal and a big mug of green tea, just to compromise for my terrible ice cream abusal this weekend. Man, I just can’t contain myself when I have “those days”. I decided to not eat (or drink) any sugar this week and see if I can even stretch it to a month. My trip to Portugal is coming up and I could do with a few less pounds.

More on that tomorrow. Here’s my outfit:

This is my favourite sweater because it is so comfy, combined with my favourite treggings (mega comfy too) and my favourite shoes. Thank heavens they get along just fine!

leggings_as_pants_outfit_ootd2.jpg
The sweater is from Vero Moda and cost me 15 euros, the pants are from HEMA (a Dutch department store) and cost me 20 euros and the shoes were bought in Spain by my husband and are sort of brandless but I know they were really cheap as well. So this is a very budget friendly outfit.

The tan leather bag is from H&M and so is the ring, the earrings are from Forever21 and the bangles are from Bali and Thailand.

Oh, and that cute headband was just something I found in my drawer.

Do let me know what you think, just don’t tell me to not wear these items ever again because I would be forever heartbroken.

Take care,

M.

Meet Mr. Marisu

Such a sweetheart, such a nerd and such a genius.

My husband Jan: 35 years old. I’ve known him my whole life, literally. We were born in the same street, then both our families moved and we ended up in the same street again, two houses between ours’. Obviously I didn’t like him then, he is eight years my senior and he treated me like I was a baby (‘I got your nose!’, come on, I was five already). When he was 18 he went away to study in another city and stayed there 12 years (never bothered to get his degree but did get a lot of friends).

20120511-111638.jpg
And then, five years ago, he came back to the town he grew up in, bought a house, started his job as a software developer and went to a friends’ birthday where he met me. We were introduced but never talked, just then. But he did tell his mother that week that he met the girl he was going to marry. How sweet!

Two and a half years ago we met again, in a bar. And well, he pursued me, in such a clumsy way that i gave in. We started dating, overcoming all the differences between the two of us, adapting both our lifestyles and just falling more and more in love.

20120511-111321.jpg

He’s one of the good ones and I knew that pretty soon into our relationship, and I knew I would probably spend the rest of my life with him, at least I knew I wanted to. So when he proposed to me last august (in Paris), I said yes and married him four months later (17 december), more about that soon.

20120511-111721.jpg
Here’s the list I made him come up with:

Likes:
- My wife!
- Good movies (Amélie, Le Samurai, TGTBATU, True romance)
- Movie musicals (Rocky horror picture show, Grease 2)
- Books (Enders Game, 1984 and anything by Kurt Vonnegut or Bill Bryson)
- Food (pasta and anything cooked by Marisu)
- Watches
- My family and inlaws
- Vacations
- My job

Dislikes:
- Lack of sleep
- Movies by David Lynch
- Religious zealots
- Social media in tv-shows
- Clowns

A special thanks to Jan, who’s my favourite creature in the world.

DIY – Pink sparkle cap toe Dr. Martens

shoe_makeover_dr_martens_boots_diy.jpg
I’ve had these Dr. Martens boots since I was 13 so that’s a century a few years back. And after all these years I only ever wear for gardening or painting and such, so I decided it was time to give them a makeover, so I would actually wear them out again. So I took out some nail polish and just painted away.

I just really love how I spiced up my old boots! If you love them just as much, watch the video to see how you could easily pimp your own shoes.

OOTD – Laughs and coffee

Here’s my outfit of the day:

20120130-174042.jpg
Maxi dresses are one of my favourite fashion items and I love to combine them with a basic cardigan so that I can wear them in winter.

20120130-174223.jpg
This dress and cardigan are both from H&M, the waist belt is from New York & Company and the tan leather ankle boot are by Janet D. Also, I’m wearing a navy blue beany, some colourful bracelets, a butterfly ring, my wedding ring and some red rose earrings. Oh, and navy blue nail polish, off course.

Let me know what you think of my outfit. I promise I won’t get mad if you don’t like it. Maybe just a little disappointed.

NOTD – I is a princess

My nail of the day makes me feel like a princess:

Smoothies soothe your mehness

Lately I have been feeling a little meh. Nothing major is bugging me, it’s just that I am really tired, uninspired, gaining weight like crazy (no, I’m not pregnant) and my house is a mess. So normally I soothe myself with all kinds of sweet pastries and I end up feeling worse and fatter then ever. So today I opted for a more healthy aproach:

20120130-151207.jpg
Smoothies! One sip made me feel so much more alive already. They taste so healthy and delicious that I had to share them with you. First I used my juicer for: 2 carrots, 1 stick of sellery, 30 fresh cranberries, 1 orange.

Then I used my blender, starting with a bunch of ice cubes and a banana, then I pored in some non-sweet soy milk and the juice I just made. To finish it I put some oats in (3 table spoons) and blended until I had a nice, pink potion. Bottoms up!

A gift for you!

Man, I love my IPhone 4S and I love it even more now that I have this new wallpaper. Isn’t it oh so sweet?

I made it myself and although I am the first to admit I am not a real designer, I thought it was nice enough to share with you guys.

Because I think you must be pretty awesome, I mean, you took a moment to read my blog and all, so yeah, you deserve a gift. And I have more of them, just check them out below and if you likes what you sees, you can download them for free. Just send me a virtual hug will ya?

OOTD – Too lazy to go outside

Baby, it’s cold outside and although I was planning on taking a nice long walk (hence the hat) I ended up doing nothing and drinking tea. Oh well…

So here’s my oh so comfy outfit:

20120128-173337.jpg

Sweater by H&M, flower brooches by H&M and boots by H&M (so I guess I do like H&M), belt by New York & Company, beige leggings and brown felt hat by Stradivarius.

Splendid IPhone Cover

Instead of buying the pretty IPhone cover I had in my wish list I bought this amazing one from Amazon. It was only a few euros and it is so much more fun then the one I initially wanted.

20120128-170302.jpg

Hello, I is photographer.

20120128-170617.jpg

My IPhone 4S is snug inside its new home, since the sides are covered as well so my precious telefono is less likely to break when if I drop it. And, well, I just love myself some vintage feel. What do you think?
